Thoughts On This Years Macworld Expo

AppleI guess you could say that Steve Jobs has done it yet again. Mac Expo’s are never dull by any standard. Perhaps this year wasn’t as groundbreaking as last year however Jobs presented some cool new stuff. The new thin “MacBook Air” is cool. I’m sure this will be a hit for the ubergeeks out there. It’s amazingly thin and light design is the ultimate traveling solution. No CD, and no LAN connection is a deal-breaker for me. I love the remote connection/disk management concept but I don’t think it is all that practical. And starting at $1799; Ouch!

The “iPhone” and “iPod touch” received some needed improvements. It’s nice to see all the iPhone features on the iPod touch. But why in the heck didn’t they boost hard drive size… I want a 160GB touch! Please… Steve, pretty please!

Netflix is killing Blockbuster and perhaps now “iTunes Movie Rentals” will be the end of Netflix. No need for brick and mortar stores, no need to wait for movies in the mail with Apples new instant gratification video rentals. Is this the future of movies? Love it!

Another less known goodie included in the latest iTunes is “Digital Copy”. This little gem will be well received for those of us who rip our movies onto our iPod’s. When you purchase some select DVD movies with the digital copy feature included you will be able to download an iTunes compatible version for free. Oh yea baby.

Maybe it’s time to spend some money on the revised “Apple TV”. With the new iTunes movie rental option and my ever growing Mac media library this may be a nice addition to the family entertainment center. Maybe!

Perfect timing for “Time Capsule”. Now the mac Wi-Fi base station is actually worth a darn. Time Capsule provides wireless backup (up to 1TB) with 802.11n Wi-Fi. Finally all the Mac’s in the house can play together and backup in one place. A great addition with Leopards “Time Machine” feature. A great addition for the multi-mac family. And, it’s about time home users learn to backup.

That’s about all I have to say about that. Mac’s Rule!
