mSpot Movie Rentals – Rent movies and not have to pay a monthly subscription fee; sign me up!
mSpot Movies is an app much like Netflix but you don’t have to pay a monthly subscription fee to rent the movies. Each movie can be rented whenever you want for a flat rental fee. They do have a subscription service (club) if you want to join but it’s not required to rent movies.
Most of the new releases are $3.99 to rent and they even throw in a free movie to try. Their movies can play over WiFi and 3G, although playing one over 3G is much lower quality. I got the free movie using WiFi and it started almost immediately. The quality was pretty good as well as the sound.
Their selection of movies is nowhere near that of Netflix but they are just starting out so I suspect they will be adding a lot more each day/week. I think this is the perfect way to enjoy movies on the iPad without having to subscribe to a service.
