Import Folder of Image Files Into Photos Library as Album

Apple’s Photos app sucks Okay it isn’t that bad but it has some really annoying usability problems that drive me bonkers. I personally keep all my photos in folders named by event and contained by years. I do NOT have Photos set to import my pictures into its own Library. I like to keep my photos where I want them.

Ever since Apple reworked the Photos app my biggest issue is (was) the inability to simply drag my folders with pictures into the Photos app and have it automatically create an album based on the folder name. Something so simple should be available but it is not.

After some searching I found an amazing AppleScript originally written by an Apple Community user named ‘code!z’ that does exactly what I wanted. The folks over at Old Toads Tutorials have compiled the script into a simple application appropriately named “Import Folders of Image Files into Library as Albums”.

Download the script (I use version 2 which allows nested folders) via Old Toad’s Tutorials (link below). Unzip the compressed archive and double-click the “Import Folders of Image Files into Library as Albums-Version 2.app” file to choose which folders you want to import as albums. Super Simple!

Damn I wish I had found this AppleScript sooner!
