In case you didn’t know: Anna Nicole Smith died February 8, 2007. She was found dead in a hotel room one day prior to check-out (no pun intended) of the Hard Rock Hotel in Florida. If you didn’t know this you must be living on a remote island with absolutely no communication to the outside world.
First let me state that I think it is bad karma to speak poorly of the dead. So I will refrain from going into what a horrible waste of oxygen Smith was. There I said it… now I can move on.
Let’s get to the point of this post. Why in the Hell was this breaking news? TV shows were interrupted to bring this breaking news story to us. CNN’s Wolf Blitzer dedicated an entire program to the story. The first news story of every evening news show was about Smith.
Smith a stripper, pin-up girl, drug addict, gold digger was the most important story for February 8th 2007. How many troops died in Iraq on February 8th 2007? Four U.S. Marines were killed on February 8th. Did we have any breaking news for them? Do we know their names?
Wow, our priorities are so skewed. Global warming, world hunger, AIDS, war, genocide, are these things not news worthy?
Sad, sad, sad…
