The face of daytime television will change forever on June 15. Bob Barker has taped his final Price Is Right show. I can’t even imagine how many of us have grown up with Bob. The sound of the “big wheel” or a falling “Plinko” disc will never be the same in my mind.
I guess after 35 years of hosting the show he is due his retirement. Barker told The Associated Press ”I will be 83 years old on December 12, and I’ve decided to retire while I’m still young”.
I never miss an episode if I happen to be home from work. There is some kind of childhood comfort that I get when I watch the show. It amazes me how the show and all its tacky, cheesy props have made it for so long.
Im curious how well the show will do without Barker. Will the overall show, props, format, and games remain the same or will the show turn a new leaf. Im sure many will tune in to check out the new host. My thought is it will be similar to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno vs the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson; not the same.
Set your TiVo – Bob Barker’s final original daytime episode of The Price Is Right will be broadcast Friday, June 15 (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.
